Blink-182's First New Song Is a Downer

"All these demons/They keep me up all night." That's the refrain in the first new Blink-182 single since a track on a greatest hits in 2005. Not exactly the wasted whine, "Say it ain't so/I will not go/Turn the lights off/Carry me home." To be fair, the pop-punk trio have been through a lot since they released "All the Small Things" on 1999's Enema of the State: Drummer Travis Barker has survived a reality show and a plane crash, singer/bassist Mark Hoppus formed a band with a name nobody could agree how to spell (+44), and singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge has weathered a debilitating case of megalomania. Their new album, Neighborhoods, has a tentative release date of September 27th.

Lady Gaga Gave Cher a Meh Song

Lady Gaga and her right-hand producer RedOne have given Cher a song for the legendary diva's upcoming album, her first since 2001's Living Proof! But it's a Gaga castoff and kind of blah. Considering Cher kindly held Gaga's meat purse at the VMAs last year, she probably deserved better than "The Greatest Thing," a cheesy mid-tempo with generic synths and warbly Auto-Tuned vocals (on the Gaga-sung demo Pop Dust dug up at least). And yet Cher seems thrilled!

Slate writer and novelist Deborah Copaken Kogan credits her community on the social networking site for helping diagnose her son’s mystery illness in time. Kogan woke up on Mother’s Day to find her 4-year-old son Leo with a rash and a fever.

In the pediatrician’s office, she updated her Facebook status with a photo of her son’s reddened face and the comment: “Nothing says Happy Mother's Day quite like a Sunday morning at the pediatrician's." As his symptoms worsened—high fever, swollen face—she continued sharing photos and concerns to a growing community of friends and ‘friends’.

Rihanna Is The New Queen Of Facebook, Beating Out Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga may be the top earning woman in music, have more followers on Twitter than any other lady rock star and receive more media coverage than her female competitors, but she is no longer the queen of Facebook.
This week, Rihanna accumulated enough likes on Facebook to surpass Lady Gaga and claim the throne as the platform's top ranking female celebrity.
According to their Facebook stats, as of Saturday, Rihanna had 40,699,853 likes, and Lady Gaga had 40,611,908, giving the "Rude Boy" singer a lead of 88,000.
Shakira is the diva with the third most Facebook followers, according to Famecount.com, which credits the Latina singer with 37 million likes. Aside from being the top three female musicians on Facebook, they also have earned spots in Facebook's top 10 pages overall. Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Shakira hold the No. 5, 6, and 8, positions, respectively.
There are three men on the Top Facebook Pages Worldwide list as well. Eminem ranks No. 3 with 43,367,713 likes. The late Michael Jackson sits at No. 7 with 38,069,882 likes, and "Baby" singer Justin Bieber holds the No. 10 position with 33,035,903 likes.

After seven years of marriage, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony have separated, their rep tells Us Weekly exclusively.

"We have decided to end our marriage. This was a very difficult decision. We have come to amicable conclusion on all matters," they said in a statement. "It is a painful time for all involved, and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time."
The couple are parents to three-year-old twins Max and Emme.
Crooner Anthony, 42, was conspicuously absent at Saturday's star-packed BAFTA Brits to Watch bash in L.A., where wife Lopez, 40, met Prince William and Duchess Kate with mom Guadalupe as her date.

Friends for years, Lopez and Anthony dated briefly in the 1990s. They stepped out again as a couple in early 2004, shortly after Lopez's broken engagement from Ben Affleck, and in the midst of Anthony's divorce from first wife, former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres. They wed at a quiet home wedding in June 2004.

Kindred Makes Magic

 

Lots going on over here at Groove headquarters, so we're going to keep things short this week. And honestly, there isn't much I can say about Kindred the Family Soul... Well, that's not true. In fact, the opposite is true but sometimes the music just needs to speak for itself.

That said, the married duo of Aja and Fatin make the kind of music that makes you want to fall in love if you're not and reminds you how hard you love if you are. They do it again with "Magic Happen," the first official single, from their upcoming album, Love Has No Recession, due July 26th. Check out the video below.

Stones Throw Records is a predominantly Hip-Hop label, specializing in "indie" acts like Madlib, Percee P and the label head, Peanut Butter Wolf. Somehow, a soul drenched whiteboy from the outskirts of Detroit made his way there. His name is Mayer Hawthorne and his sound is reminiscent of the soul samples you hear on Hip-Hop tracks from producers like 9th Wonder and the late J Dilla. His sound is an amalgam of the best memories of real Soul music hugged by the present-day electro-Hip-Hop soul-sampled production that has defined the indie rap scene. The combination is a total marriage in the package of a man that could pass for an English professor. How's that for a winning combination?

Why Buying The Deluxe Edition Of Beyonce's "4" Album Is Worth It

 

By now, thanks to us, you've heard Beyonce's "4" album in it's entirety, but it's Target that got the honors of exclusively offering the album's deluxe edition (out tomorrow). With six extra tracks, three of which are remixes to the already severely sound-layered "Run The World (Girls)," fans get the opportunity to get more bang for the buck. And in Bey's case, it's well worth it.

There's no denying that "4" starts off slow, quite literally. There's four back-to-back ballads that alternate feelings between being madly in love in an us-against-the-world​ kind of way that's made for movies ("1+1") and being angrily resentful of a no-good no-name-mentioned man that certainly didn't deserve the little bit of time you gave him ("Best Thing I Never Had"). Thankfully, "Party" featuring Andre 3000 and a term-coining Kanye West ("swagu" seems here to stay, folks) enters the playlist next, but despite it's early '90s groove, it's mid-tempo barely makes you break a sweat. And so, you find yourself back at square one, with more ballads, some that channel the '60s Supremes ("Rather Die Young") and others that are overwrought with regret and hopes for redemption ("Start Over").

David Banner Goes Commercial... Literally

 

Madison Avenue is no stranger to collaborating hip-hop artists, but they're usually just licensing a a hit song or using an up and coming band as brand ambassadors. However, superproducer/MC David Banner has recently teamed with ad agencies that rep Gatorade and Gillette to craft music especially for their campaigns.

Groove recently caught up the Mississippi native to talk about working with brands, maintaining artistic credibility and getting "Footloose."

Groove: Are you all surprised by these brands that are interested in working with you?

David Banner: Not at all. I think I’m more surprised that I couldn’t do a lot of the same things and be this creative in hip-hop and R&B. I’m not surprised that brands are very interested in my music – I’ve always been doing music at this level and quality. I knew if I got the opportunity for people to hear my music, that they would love it.

Jolie: 'Salt' Part II?

 

This would be a sequel worth watching. I hope.

"Angelina Jolie wants to play Evelyn Salt again in a sequel to 2010's 'Salt,' TheWrap has confirmed.

"Kurt Wimmer, who wrote the original movie, is onboard for the second, also at Columbia.


"Phillip Noyce directed the thriller.

"The main character, a CIA agent who is accused of being a Russian spy, originally was written as a man. Jolie, however, carried the role credibly, carrying the Sony thriller to $293.5 million in global box office receipts."

'X Men: First Class' Opens

 

"X Men: First Class" opens today and the reviews appear to be stuck on the same speed, albeit revving between faster and fun to just one notch below an entire downshift. They all just feel ... pretty good.

Here's a nice instillation -- I'm trusting this middle of the line take from the NY Times' Manohla Dargis:

"With its spy-on-spy globetrotting, old-fashioned villains, flirty but prematurely swinging minis and fan-boy bits (look for an eye-blink-fast tribute to "Basic Instinct" and a cameo from the cult actor Michael Ironside), the whole enterprise has an agreeable lightness, no small thing, given its rapidly moving parts."

I don't have it in me to get super angry about movies these days. For example, the idea that the "Pirates" movie is absolutely soul crushing doesn't really surprise me. I'm not going into the thing thinking it's going to change my life or even offer me some escape. I mean, what were people expecting? Are these sequels based on a series of pirates movies directed by Ingmar Bergman? What?

Anyway ... I need another anger inducing "Inception" to throw me into a tizzy.

'Horrible Bosses' Director Seth Gordon

 

After the breakout documentary "King of Kong" -- about the surprisingly vicious rivalry between the world's top Donkey Kong players -- Seth Gordon made the jump to fiction filmmaking with the misfired "Four Christmases." After a brief pause, he's back with "Horrible Bosses," starring Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis as three working guys who just might be plotting to kill their upper management in the name of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Coming from the world of documentary filmmaking, the affable Gordon is very aware there's a different level of craft and cash in play. "Yeah, any day on any of these sets would have paid for the entirety of 'Kong,' so that puts everything in perspective for sure. The budgets for the films are so much higher and it's so stratospherical that it's hard even to have much perspective on it. $50 million is a lot of money. It's hard to put your arms around that figure. I'm grateful to have gotten the chance to have a studio believe in me in that way, and I hope we get that money back for them. ..."

Times are tight, budgets are pinched. We had two dollars left in our food budget on Tuesday of last week, so I buzzed to the store and bought the only thing I could think of.  Ramen. At 17 cents a package, ramen has to be the best food deal out there. And, it’s a fun deal, too. Because a packet of ramen isn’t just soup waiting to be made. It’s actually a blank canvas ready to be turned into art. Here are 10 super-simple ways to pimp out your ramen and make it into a simple, satisfying dinner.

1. Veggie Ramen (pictured above) . Toss a tablespoon of butter into a skillet. Add 2 tablespoons each of thinly-sliced carrots, frozen green beans, frozen white corn, and edamame. Cook just until softened. Add a packet of Pork Ramen, 2 cups of water, and cook until the noodles are cooked through, about 6 minutes. Add seasoning packet. Serve and enjoy.

Five ways to get a better signal for your cell phone

 

Are you suffering from too few bars on your cell phone signal? As we increasingly rely on our cell phones to manage daily responsibilities, it becomes more critical to maintain a proper connection.
While standing near a window, turning our phones upside down, and even hopping around in circles on one leg are all things we resort to in hopes of getting a stronger signal, there are several more reliable ways to get better reception on our cell phones.
Here are the five best ways to get a better signal.

1) Keep your batteries charged throughout the day

The easiest and most obvious solution is also the cheapest and most reliable place to start. Our cell phones - particularly smartphones that can access the Internet, video and applications - consume a lot of power when connecting a call. Even if your phone has enough juice to initiate a call, additional power is required to transmit and maintain a reliable signal. While it can vary according to device and carrier, don't be surprised if you experience more dropped calls with a battery that is less than 10 percent full. So before buying expensive equipment, switching carriers or having all of your indoor cell phone conversations under a skylight, try keeping your battery charged throughout the day and see if there is a noticeable improvement.
Gently used extra power cords can be purchased on eBay and other sites for literally a few bucks. So if you don’t want to travel with an extra cord, you can maintain multiple charging centers in areas where you spend the most time on your phone. In your office, plug your phone into a wall socket or through USB to your computer. For the car, purchase an adapter for your cigarette lighter or power socket (also very inexpensive) that will charge your phone as you drive.
Finally, if you like to run a lot of applications on your smartphone, make sure they are fully turned off or at least using the minimal amount of power while in use. Fittingly, there are plenty of apps to help you monitor and preserve battery life available to iPhone and Android smartphone owners.

Avert your eyes, R-Patz fans: Robert Pattinson's world-famous locks got a drastic, crazy makeover this week.

Signing autographs and taking pictures with fans in the wee hours early Thursday, the Twilight hunk, 25, was photographed with a startling new haircut -- long and floppy on one side, raggedly buzzed on another.

What gives? It turns out the intense new look is all about his art. Pattinson is currently shooting the trippy thriller Cosmopolis, based on author Don Delillo's acclaimed novel. In one scene in the book, protagonist Eric Parker (played Pattinson in the film) freaks out during a haircut -- fleeing the barber's shop in the middle of the procedure.
Pattinson has, of course, chopped his locks for a role before, going much shorter for his role in Water for Elephants.

The superstar has said he never uses shampoo to wash his hair. "I just use water. No one ever believes me, but it's true."

July 4-10: Reports Of the Music Industry's Demise Greatly Exaggerated?

 

With music magazines powering down their printing presses, record companies slashing expense accounts, venerable chains like Tower Records closing shop, and even A-list pop stars failing to fill seats in this nation's concert venues (even with Groupon's help), it seems clear that the music industry is in serious trouble. But rock 'n' roll is not dead, dear readers. According to an encouraging mid-year report by Nielsen SoundScan, album sales experienced their first boost since SoundScan started tracking digital sales in 2004--up 8.5 percent from last year's all-time lows. This is good news, and on top of that, this week Eminem became the first artist to sell 1 million digital copies of a single album. Physical album sales may be down 11 percent--that's the bad news--but digital album sales are in fact up 19 percent, so maybe downloading (at least the legal kind) isn't killing music after all.

Daniel Radcliffe Reveals The Two Props He Took As Mementos From 'Harry Potter' Film Series

Daniel Radcliffe has taken his final turn as Harry Potter, but now, with the film series' final installment -- "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2" -- in theaters next Friday, the British actor has revealed he took some of the props home - two pairs of Potter spectacles.
"Yes, I have two pairs. I have one pair from the very first film and one from the last," Daniel told Alex Zane, a host of the "Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows - Part 2" official premiere web stream, held in Trafalgar Square, London, on Thursday. "So I've got my fair share of swag."

The actor, who flew in from New York City, where he's starring on Broadway in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," said the film, due out stateside on July 15, will impress the fans.
"I cannot emphasize enough how far ahead this film is from any of the others," Daniel gushed. "It's amazing. I am so proud of this film and the way we have gone out in this film. We could just not have made a better version of this film. It's staggeringly good and I'm a harsh critic of these films. I think people are gonna go crazy for it."

A little startled by the invite, people often agree, and are then led across the Facebook parking lot where they eventually end up hiking along a trail that reaches a Silicon Valley lookout. Megan Fox Aims to Dispel Botox Rumors Via Facebook Photos

For years now, Megan Fox has been plagued with rumors that she's had plastic surgery done, claims which she has continually denied.
She went as far as telling Allure last year that any woman who is considering getting work done should think about getting therapy instead.
"My lips are my lips," she told the magazine. "I would encourage anyone to first speak with a therapist, to try and figure out where this want comes from, because a lot of times it's not related to your teeth or your nose or your chin -- the surgery is not going to alleviate that insecurity for you."
But Fox apparently still has a chip on her shoulder.

5 Foods that Keep You Thin

It's true: Apples can help you stay thin. 

Take a look around any book store, and you'll find dozens of diet books lining the shelves. Despite their bright and cheerful covers, with their positive, upbeat claims, many of them are filled with information that promotes all the wrong messages.

"The word 'diet' is negative and implies people can go on and off them," said Jane Korsberg, a senior instructor in the department of nutrition at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

Korsberg is one nutritionist who thinks it would be better to re-think the whole concept of dieting.

"'Diet foods' are confusing to many people," she explained. "What diet is the 'diet food' geared for? Is it low-calorie, low-fat, low-sodium, low-sugar, gluten-free, et cetera?"
