Jolie: 'Salt' Part II?

This would be a sequel worth watching. I hope.

Angelina Jolie might reprise her role as Evelyn Salt. (Yes, she did indeed have a first name).

"Angelina Jolie wants to play Evelyn Salt again in a sequel to 2010's 'Salt,' TheWrap has confirmed.

"Kurt Wimmer, who wrote the original movie, is onboard for the second, also at Columbia.

"Phillip Noyce directed the thriller.

"The main character, a CIA agent who is accused of being a Russian spy, originally was written as a man. Jolie, however, carried the role credibly, carrying the Sony thriller to $293.5 million in global box office receipts."

'X Men: First Class' Opens

"X Men: First Class" opens today and the reviews appear to be stuck on the same speed, albeit revving between faster and fun to just one notch below an entire downshift. They all just feel ... pretty good.

Here's a nice instillation -- I'm trusting this middle of the line take from the NY Times' Manohla Dargis:

"With its spy-on-spy globetrotting, old-fashioned villains, flirty but prematurely swinging minis and fan-boy bits (look for an eye-blink-fast tribute to "Basic Instinct" and a cameo from the cult actor Michael Ironside), the whole enterprise has an agreeable lightness, no small thing, given its rapidly moving parts."

I don't have it in me to get super angry about movies these days. For example, the idea that the "Pirates" movie is absolutely soul crushing doesn't really surprise me. I'm not going into the thing thinking it's going to change my life or even offer me some escape. I mean, what were people expecting? Are these sequels based on a series of pirates movies directed by Ingmar Bergman? What?

Anyway ... I need another anger inducing "Inception" to throw me into a tizzy.

'Horrible Bosses' Director Seth Gordon

After the breakout documentary "King of Kong" -- about the surprisingly vicious rivalry between the world's top Donkey Kong players -- Seth Gordon made the jump to fiction filmmaking with the misfired "Four Christmases." After a brief pause, he's back with "Horrible Bosses," starring Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis as three working guys who just might be plotting to kill their upper management in the name of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Coming from the world of documentary filmmaking, the affable Gordon is very aware there's a different level of craft and cash in play. "Yeah, any day on any of these sets would have paid for the entirety of 'Kong,' so that puts everything in perspective for sure. The budgets for the films are so much higher and it's so stratospherical that it's hard even to have much perspective on it. $50 million is a lot of money. It's hard to put your arms around that figure. I'm grateful to have gotten the chance to have a studio believe in me in that way, and I hope we get that money back for them. ..."

New 'Hop' Trailer and Photo

Entertainment Weekly shows the newest trailer for "Hop" -- 24 days before Easter -- the  live-action movie starring Russell Brand as the Easter Bunny. (Above is a newly released photo as well. Thanks to Rope of Silicon).

Here's more from EW. I don't know ... Volvo? Pooping jelly beans? Did I just write that last sentence.

"So he goes to Hollywood, where James Marsden hits him with his Volvo, lets him move into a massive mansion, and then tries to ditch him in the Hollywood Hills. That’s when E.B. poops jelly beans on the hood of his car. One of which 'The Big Bang Theory's" Kaley Cuoco eventually eats — but don’t worry, it tastes like watermelon."

Check out the trailer:

'On the Road' Stills

The adaptation of Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" has caused some debate among beat-o-philes (is that an actual term? I need to come up with a better one), chiefly for the more buzzed about casting of "Twilight's" Kristen Stewart and not, you know, the two leads of the novel -- Garrett Hedlund (as Dean Moriarty) and Sam Riley (as Sal Paradise).

But, thanks to Movieline, I'm officially excited by this project because of ... stills. They are lovely. Director Walter Salles and his cinematographer Eric Gautier, are revealing that the picture at least looks authentic and beautiful.

The next still, of Stewart dancing, is after the jump:

‘Insidious’ Trailer – A New Horror Thrill Ride from the Makers of ‘Saw’ and ‘Paranormal Activity’

Director James Wan has been on a downward slope since Saw. His ultra low-budget horror debut may not have been a huge hit with critics, but as you have surely deduced from the six sequels it’s spawned, the film performed like gangbusters with audiences. His two follow-up efforts, meanwhile, did not. Death Sentence performed miserably at the box office, and Dead Silence didn’t fare much better. Critics hated both.
James Wan has two strikes against him now, and is in desperate need of a hit if he has any intention of reclaiming his past glory.
Good thing Wan has Insidious, a film he’s been quoted as saying he wants to be “the Poltergeist for this generation”. This time around, he’s teamed up with Paranormal Activity creators Oren Peli, Jason Blum and Steven Schneider — a fact the trailer eagerly promotes, though obviously without acknowledging that they’re only serving in a producer capacity — and reunited with Saw screenwriter Leigh Whannell. Its story revolves around a family looking to prevent evil spirits from trapping their comatose child in a realm called The Further. Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne star, with Barbara Hershey in a supporting role. The film premiered at TIFF 2010 as one of its Midnight Madness selections, and generated great buzz. Check out the trailer after the break.
The trailer is filled with the typical ghostly imagery and shock scares that tend to encumber the surfeit of generic “haunting” movies these days, but the presence of Wilson and Byrne already has me putting this entry a notch above those. And to its credit, the trailer does maintain an effective sense of unease throughout due to its fretful, anxious atmosphere. That could just be the result of a good editor who knows how to put ticking, beating and screeching to good use, but the glowing response to the film has me hoping otherwise. The film’s gotten exceptionally positive reviews from horror (Fangoria, FEARnet, Arrow in the Head) and non-horror (Hitfix, Twitch, First Showing) sites alike. Hell, even Variety dug it. From everything I’ve read, the movie sounds like a relentlessly entertaining haunted house ride. Whether the film is still capable of delivering that experience when stripped of its gung-ho “Midnight Madness” premiere (complete with a packed audience and filmmakers in attendance), I don’t know.
What I can say for certain is this: That split-second shot of the red-and-black beasty gawking behind Wilson is all sorts of creepy.
Insidious releases in theaters on April 1, 2011.

Fashion at the Movies: Titanic

Fashion at the Movies: Titanic
One of the most adored love stories of all time, James Cameron’s epic film Titanic first graced the silver screen in 1997. Set during the RMS Titanic’s ill-fated maiden voyage in 1912, the movie follows the romance of fictional passengers Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater. The two connect despite belonging to different social classes and the fact that Rose is already engaged to the arrogant Cal Hockley.
While Titanic is perhaps best known for its box office records and heartbreaking-ly romantic plot (it’s impossible not to bawl your eyes out when Celine starts singing, no matter how many times you’ve seen it), its elegant Edwardian costumes are just as noteworthy. Today, I’ll break down some real-life-wearable looks inspired by the film’s glamorous wardrobe.

Outfit 1: Rose Dawson

titanic rose dawson
Since Rose is a member of the upper class, she is always dressed in high-end looks and swathed in expensive fabrics and jewelry.  However, she quickly realizes social status does not matter when she falls in love with drifter Jack Dawson. At the end of the film, Rose even identifies herself as Rose Dawson to her rescuers from the RMS Carpathia.
To achieve Rose’s sophisticated style, pair a ladylike hat with an ornate dress, classic pumps, and post earrings. Black tights and a wool coat help keep you warm in the winter while still looking stylish!

'Arthur' Trailer

The trailer for "Arthur" has been released and I'm raising my hand here. Question: Isn't the charming and talented Greta Gerwig in this movie? As Arthur's true love? Where is she?

Is she, perhaps ... trapped between the moon and ... I'm stopping. Bad joke about to begin.

Also, another question: How many cliche preview songs can fit in one trailer? The answer? Three! The let's state what the hero represents tune, "Rebel, Rebel," the high school half time band favorite, "Alright Now" and the always useful when the hero is in a pinch, "Under Pressure."

Anyway, here's the trailer for the re-boot of the popular Dudley Moore comedy, "Arthur," this time around with Russell Brand as the spoiled, yet cuddly, inebriated billionaire. Helen Mirren and quite obviously, Jennifer Garner (as the woman he doesn't love) also star.

Idol News Beat: Fantasia Gets a Movie, Sanjaya Gets a Musical and Adam Gets a Grammy(?!)

'American Idol' may not always make lasting superstars, but at least the show is good for boosting the album sales of its judges panel...or least one of them.

According to Nielsen Soundscan, Steven Tyler's Aerosmith has seen an incredible 250% increase in sales of their "Greatest Hits" compilations. The 'Idol' effect was also felt in Aerosmith's singles catalog, with a 363% boost for power ballad and 'Idol' audition favorite, "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing," during the week ending Jan 30th. As for J.Lo's record sales, no news is...

Clay Aiken Doesn't Feel Like Making a Record, Anyway

On the other end of the coin, Clay Aiken is playing off rumors of being dropped by Decca, his record label by giving the impression he doesn't care about recording right now, anyway. Aiken told The Hollywood Reporter, "There is no upcoming album planned at this time," and added that he's focusing on his live show and heading out on the road for the next few months. "The truth is, I have no desire to get back into the studio any time soon," said Aiken. So I guess that whole record deal thing won't matter anyway then, right?

Sanjaya's Got a Job!

Sure, I was glad to hear Sanjaya was making pay singing about pizza, but scoring a role in the Off-Broadway adaptation of Julianne Moore's popular children's musical "Freckleface Strawberry, is a nice upgrade. Sanjaya makes his debut on Feb. 23rd.

Paula Abdul is Free if 'The X-Factor' Is Interested

Simon Cowell has thus far been non-committal on the Paula Abdul/X-Factor question. But if the mega-producer and panelist had any concerns about Paula's availability, CBS may have taken care of the matter. Sources say it's unlikely 'Live to Dance' will see another season, meaning Abdul's schedule just opened up...for 'The X-Factor!' Come on guys, let's get the band back together!

Adam Lambert Gets Ready for His Grammy

Grammy nominee, Adam Lambert made the media rounds this week, dropping by 'Ellen' and 'Access Hollywood' to promote his "Glam Nation Live" DVD /CD release and talk up his nomination. Adams faces competition from Bruno Mars, Michael Buble, John Mayer and Michael Jackson in the "Best Male Pop Vocal" category. Yikes!

Fantasia Heads to the Big Screen

Season 3 winner Fantasia Barrino's career may be on an upswing. Barrino, whose only real other film credit is a Lifetime made-for-TV-movie about...herself, will star in a biopic centered on the life and career of gospel singer, Mahalia Jackson. Production is set to begin in April with a possible December release.
